Ali was born and bred on Sydney's Northern Beaches where she lives and works to this day. She started out as a textile designer after graduating from East Sydney Technical College Dress Design School, designing prints for clothing and furnishings including brands such as Billabong, Sheridan and Seafolly. As well as textile design, she also branched out into pictorial sign writing, graphic design, and antique print restoration.
After many years as a commercial artist and designer, she decided to shift her focus to a long held desire to learn oil painting in a formal setting. She enrolled at Julian Ashton Art School at The Rocks, where she was awarded the Sydney Mechanics School of Arts Scholarship.
Her paintings have been exhibited at Julian Ashton Exhibitions.
Life then got in the way, illness and circumstances forcing her to put all artistic pursuits on hold, get an office job, complete an occasional commission or painting here and there. After retiring from work in 2021, and with the support of her husband and family, she has been able to focus solely on her love of painting once again.
Drawing inspiration from the natural beauty of coastal landscapes and every day life of the Northern Beaches, she brings together her sense of design, colour and traditional oil painting skills to depict memory evoking scenes of our beautiful area.
